The twitter handle of Male’ City Council’s Spokesperson Mariyam Shiuna has been suspended due to the tweet she made calling for the bloodshed of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
On February 2, the account ‘Nannaxeev’, called to change President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's government by all means, "even with bloodshed,".
Following this tweet, Maldives Police Services began investigations.
The tweet which was later deleted read that, "People need to come out with force and end this administration,".
She went onto say that President Solih was committing atrocities against Muslims every day, and stated that "he needs to be brought down to earth."
Shiuna in her tweet said that "it is not enough to tweet. We have change it even with bloodshed,".
She clarified in a later tweet that she had removed the earlier one because so many people had misinterpreted it. She claimed her message did not refer to a physical bloodbath.
The Anti-Terrorism Act makes it illegal to encourage terrorism.
Previous instances of these tweets have been looked into, and some of them have even resulted in charges.
