Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel has concluded his official visit to Georgia.
State Minister Khaleel concludes his trip and returned to Male' on Saturday.
Minister of State for Foreign Affairs departed to Georgia to part in the second round of political consultations between Maldives and Georgia on Thursday.
The second round of political consultations between Maldives and Georgia were held in Tbilisi, on Friday.
The Political Consultation provides a platform between the two countries to discuss bilateral, regional and multilateral issues of mutual importance.
During the dialogue, both the governments explored ways to further expand bilateral relations and enhance cooperation in several areas including trade, tourism, health, education, environment and climate change.
The discussions also focused on enhancing economic cooperation including increasing connectivity and boosting trade between both the countries.
The two governments also discussed international issues of mutual importance and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen cooperation in the multilateral arena.
The second round of political consultation was co-chaired by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Ahmed Khaleel and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Alexander Khvtisiashvili.
The first round of political consultations between the two countries were held on 11 December 2019 in Male’.
During the visit, State Minister Khaleel met with the Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, and explored ways to boost trade between the two countries especially in the areas of tourism, fisheries and investment..
He also met with the Chairperson of Foreign Relations Committee at the Parliament of Georgia, and discussed areas to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation, including strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
State Minister Khaleel also met Maldivian students currently studying medicine in the Georgian National University.
State Minister Khaleel was accompanied by Joint Secretary Shiuneen Rasheed and Desk Officer Saifulla Waleed during this visit.
