Two individuals have been arrested in two separate drug operations held by the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The police institution revealed that the two arrests were made from separate drug operations conducted in Meedhoo island of Dhaalu atoll and Thulhaadhoo island of Baa atoll.
The operation in Meedhoo island stemmed from intel reports of drug abuse on the island, on December 10. As such, arrested in connection with the case is a 23-year-old Maldivian man who was found in possession of three rubber packets stuffed with suspected narcotics.
The operation in Thulhaadhoo island was launched following a tip-off that the suspect was trafficking drugs on the island.
With the joint efforts of the Thulhaadhoo Police Station, Eydhafushi Police Station and the Police Intelligence Unit, a 20-year-old Maldivian man was arrested during the operation.
He was arrested during a raid on his residence under a court order, where officers confiscated five rubber packets filled with suspected narcotics.
The operation was conducted on December 7.
Upon being presented to the Thulhaadhoo Magistrate Court for his remand hearing, the 20-year-old has been remanded for 15 days, at a facility allocated by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
