The People's Majlis has rejected the proposed additional MVR 8 million to be added to the state budget 2023 for the development of Arabiyya School.
MVR 6.4 million is allocated for the development of Arabiyya School in the budget for the year 2023. Member of Parliament for Maavashu Constituency, Mohamed Saeed proposed to add MVR 8 million to this on Monday's sitting. Member of Parliament for Maduvvaree Constituency, Adam Shareef supported the proposal. However, the proposal was rejected by the Parliament members.
As such, while 55 members voted against the proposal, only 14 members voted in favor of the proposal.
When the state budget 2023 was first presented the to the Parliament, the development of Arabiyya School was not included in the budget. Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer said that this was an administrative blunder.
The government is to develop a new building for Arabiyya School, on the plot of land where the old Jamaluddin School is located. This was announced during a meeting held between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and members of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) of Arabiyya School on 20 December, 2021.
Spokesperson at the President's Office, Miuvan Mohamed assured earlier this month that the development of a new building for Arabiyya School is a priority project for this administration.
