Ibrahim Shaheeb, the newly appointed High Commissioner of Maldives to India, has presented his credentials.

High Commissioner Shaheeb presented his Letter of Credence to President of India Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday.

The Maldivian HC paid a courtesy call to the Indian President following the credentials ceremony, where he conveyed greetings from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih as well as the government and people of Maldives, to the President and friendly people of India.

Expressing appreciation for the support the government of India has extended in the socio-economic development of Maldives, HC Shaheeb expressed commitment to work closely with the Indian government and its people with a renewed focus on taking the relations to new heights especially in expanding trade and investment ties between Maldives and India.

The call also saw the Indian President congratulating HC Shaheeb on his appointment.

She expressed hope to work closely with the government of Maldives in efforts to further solidify bilateral relations between the two countries in areas of mutual interest.

The credentials ceremony was joined by the Maldivian HC’s spouse Mariyam Ilham Niyaz, Defence Advisor of Maldives in India Colonel Mohamed Ibrahim, First Secretary Ahmed Suzil, First Secretary Maryam Bassam Farooq and Second Secretary Nuaz Afeef from the High Commission of Maldives in India.

President Solih appointed Shaheeb as the new High Commissioner of Maldives to India on October 10 this year, after his appointment was approved by the People’s Majlis during August.

Shaheeb had earlier served as Maldives’ High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore as well. Further, he had also filled the position of Chief of Protocol at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
