FL Fazna urges parents to help create a safe environment for all children
She shed light on the importance of listening to children, understanding their concerns and fears as well as guiding them throughout their lives
She urged parents to play their parts in parenting, both the mother and father
FL Fazna said that parents want their children to grow up in a supportive environment

First Lady Fazna Ahmed has urged parents to collaborate in efforts to ensure a safe environment for all children.

She made this remark in a video message delivered at a parenting session held in Kendhikulhudhoo Island of Noonu atoll.

As such, the first lady stressed the importance of sharing knowledge and information between parents, to help establish a safe environment for all children.

She went on to urge parents to assist each other in raising children to realize their full potential, in this regard.

Held as part of activities to mark the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse and World Children's Day, the session was held jointly by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the Maldives Police Service, and the Kendhikulhudhoo island council.

The first lady went on to announce the launching of the ‘Joint Positive Parenting Programme’ by the administration, in collaboration with UNICEF Maldives.

The programme carries the purpose of assisting parents to support children’s growth from infancy through adolescence as well as to equip them with positive parenting skills and teach them to adopt self-care techniques to aid their well-being.

Self-care techniques were also discussed at the session.

Speaking to parents and guardians of children, FL Fazna highlighted that good parenting is never easy, stressing that continuing to love, nurture and guide children down the right path is of utmost importance.

FL Fazna added that parents want their children to grow up in a supportive environment and that the approaches and skills used by parents are crucial in efforts to create a safe environment.

She also shed light on the significance of interacting with children of all ages and added that such interactions influence children’s growth and define parent-child relationships in the process.

Sharing her personal parenting experiences, the first lady highlighted that the experience had taught her that parenting was a learning process.

The session also saw FL Fazna inquiring parents and guardians to recognize the physical and emotional changes children go through.
