The council of Bilehfahi island in Shaviyani atoll has shared the island community’s development requirements with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.

This was done during a meeting the president held with the island council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) of Bilehfahi on Sunday.

President Solih engaged in discussions revolving around the island community’s most pertinent needs and development requirements, with the island council and WDC members.

The meeting saw Bilehfahi councilors shedding light on the multiple development projects initiated by the Solih administration, noting that 95 percent of the projects pledged by the president are currently in progress.

They also shared the concerns of the island community regarding the harbor expansion project including difficulties in using the entry channel and docking vessels for repairs. They went on to request the president to expand the project scope to address these concerns.

President Solih was also briefed on the need to develop a youth center and facilitate opportunities for sports on the island, as well as the need for road construction, coastal protection and expediting the airport development project.

Councilors also shared concerns regarding the proposed waste management center.

The meeting also saw WDC members of the island briefing the president on their concerns regarding budget constraints, the lack of dedicated office space and the need for a women’s indoor gym.

Further, the needs of the Kanditheemu constituency were also a topic of discussion.

Listening to these concerns, President Solih assured that projects for which the budget has been secured will proceed as planned and informed the council members that the airport development project is scheduled to commence soon and that the concerns of the WDC members will also be looked into.

He assured the council and WDC that the government will try to accommodate requests regarding the scope of the harbor project.
