Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has extended condolence ‎‎to the the people and the Government of India, following the tragedy that has struck with the collapse of the suspension bridge in Morbi, Gujarat.

Minister Shahid sent a message of condolence ‎‎to the Minister of External Affairs of India Dr. S. Jaishankar.

In his message, the Minister noted that he was saddened to hear the distressing news of the collapse of the bridge on the Machchu River in Gujarat’s Morbi District causing the tragic loss of so many innocent lives and injury to many more.

The Minister went on to extend the deepest sympathies of the Government and the people of the Maldives, to the grieving families that had lost their loved ones.

He also wished for a speedy recovery for those injured in the accident.

Minister Shahid also expressed hope that the efforts of the emergency response teams proceed with ease and success.

The Maldivian Foreign Minister concluded his message by commending the perseverance of the people of India during this difficult time.
