Corrections recruit dies from drowning while undergoing training

A recruit of the Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has died from drowning while undergoing basic training at Maafushi Prison.
MCS has since confirmed the death, revealing that the recruit, a 19 year old woman succumbed while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) on Sunday afternoon.
The authority also revealed that investigations into the death are currently underway in cooperation with the Maldives Police Service (MPS).
The sad news of her passing has also been conveyed to her family according to corrections authority.
She was initially taken to the Maafushi Health Center, immediately after the incident was reported to authorities at around 11:15am, and then was rushed to IGM hospital in the capital city for further treatment, shortly after.
Authorities are yet to reveal further details regarding the death.
