Maldives desires to see more investments from the Sultanate of Oman in the island nation’s tourism sector, says Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid.
As part of his ongoing visit to Oman as the Special Envoy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Minister Shahid met with the Minister of Heritage and Tourism of the Sultanate of Oman, Salem Bin Mohammed Al-Mahrouqi, on Wednesday.
Held at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman, the meeting saw FM Shahid shedding light that 2022 is being celebrated as the Golden Year of Tourism in Maldives, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the tourism industry.
He briefed the Omani minister regarding the development of tourism in the Maldives over the past 50 years and applauded the Sultanate of Oman on its thriving Tourism industry in line with Oman’s 2040 National Tourism Strategy.
The ministers also engaged in discussions regarding the significance of increasing people-to-people contact between the two countries.
They also affirmed their commitment to enhance cooperation in the area of tourism, between the two countries.
The meeting was joined by Non-Resident Ambassador of Maldives to the Sultanate of Oman, Mohamed Khaleel and Joint Secretary at the Foreign Ministry, Fathimath Najwa.
The Omani minister was accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism of Oman.
FM Shahid headed to Muscat, Oman on Tuesday and was received by the Chief of Protocol of Oman Khalid Aljaradi. He is expected to return some time on Thursday.
