The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed that there were no serious injuries to Mohamed Azhaan’s body, and so far they have not got any evidence that he was killed. Azhaan is a Maldivian youth, aged 27, who went missing and later found dead in the bushes in Hulhu Male.
The police institution held a presser on Saturday to provide the latest updates to the public regarding Azhaan’s death .
As such, Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Basheer highlighted that when Azhaan’s body was discovered from the skate park region in Hulhumalé, some of his bones were visible, as it was badly decomposed. Authorities believe that Azhaan’s body had been there for several days.
While authorities sent Azhaan’s body for postmortem examinations earlier, the police revealed that final results of the autopsy will only be available in approximately two months’ time.
Police said that findings so far do not indicate that Azhaan was in any form of financial trouble, and that investigations are still underway to find any suspects, if any, regarding the case.
After postmortem aboard, Azhaan’s body was returned to Maldives and laid to rest on Friday.
Azhaan’s body was discovered during a search operation conducted following Azhaan’s disappearance, around 05:45pm on October 2.
However, authorities revealed that Azhaan’s phone was not found anywhere near the region the body was re-covered in.
Superintendent Hassan Saeed, Head of the Police Serious and Organized Crimes Unit, told media that the body was discovered in the empty plot of land adjacent to the water theme park in Hulhumalé.
The body, which was not identifiable, and believed to be Azhaan’s, was reportedly found heavily decomposed.
Mohamed Azhaan, 27, went missing from Hulhumalé Phase II on September 19.
Police earlier revealed that Azhaan was last spotted, through CCTV footage, boarding a taxi near Hiyaa Tower 13, early morning on September 18, at around 04:53am.
Azhaan's body was discovered after about 2 weeks since he went missing.
Azhaan was employed as a barista in Meraki Café.
