Authorities are to send the body believed to be of missing youth Mohamed Azhaan, for postmortem examinations.
Maldives Police Service (MPS) on Sunday revealed that a body was discovered during an operation conducted as part of an investigation being carried out in connection with Azhaan’s disappearance, around 05:45pm on Sunday.
The body is believed to be of Azhaan’s.
However, authorities revealed that Azhaan’s phone was not found anywhere near the region the body was discovered in.
Superintendent Hassan Saeed, Head of the Police Serious and Organized Crimes Unit, told media that the body was discovered in the empty plot of land adjacent to the water theme park in Hulhumalé.
Saeed revealed that Azhaan’s family has also been notified that postmortem examinations will be conducted.
The body believed to be Azhaan’s, was reportedly found heavily decomposed.
Police revealed that so far, the scene has not been searched thoroughly and it was hard for officers to identify the extent of injuries on the body.
Mohamed Azhaan, 27, went missing from Hulhumalé Phase II on September 19.
Police earlier revealed that Azhaan was last spotted boarding a taxi near Hiyaa Tower 13, early morning on September 18. As such, police spotted Azhaan boarding a white car at around 04:53am on September 18, through CCTV footage.
It has been two weeks since Azhaan went missing. He was reported to be wearing a peach colored short-sleeved floral shirt at the time he went missing.
Azhaan was employed as a barista in Meraki Café.
