Abdulla Shahid, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives is to attend the funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe as President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s special envoy.

The President’s Office on Monday revealed that FM Shahid will be representing the Maldives on behalf of President Solih as his special envoy, at the funeral of Japan’s former Prime Minister.

FM Shahid departed to Japan to attend the funeral on Monday.

He is accompanied by some other delegates.

Shinzo Abe passed away due to injuries sustained following an attack by a assassin at a public gathering on 8 July 2022.

Authorities of Japan are to hold a state funeral for the former PM in Tokyo on September 27.

A number of foreign dignitaries and state leaders are scheduled to attend the funeral.
