No injuries have been reported, in the explosion of gas cylinders onboard a whale submarine anchored off the coast of Villimalé.

Maldives Police Service (MPS) revealed that officers stationed in Maafannu district of the capital Malé City as well as the special constabulary police stationed at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), had reported hearing a loud explosion at around 09:10pm on Thursday.

Initial police findings reveal that four gas cylinders onboard the whale submarine had exploded.

Further details of the explosion are yet to be revealed.

The police is continuing further investigations into the matter.
