Discussions have been held on enhancing economic cooperation between Maldives and Saudi Arabia.
This was done during a meeting held between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives, Abdulla Shahid and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud.
FM Shahid called on his Saudi Arabian counterpart at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia as part of his ongoing official visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting saw FM Shahid presenting a letter from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih addressed to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
At the meeting the foreign ministers explored avenues to further strengthen the bilateral partnership between the two countries, particularly on enhancing economic cooperation
Shedding light on the long-standing fraternal bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Maldives and Saudi Arabia, based on Islamic solidarity, mutual understanding and goodwill, the ministers also discussed ongoing cooperation projects.
As such, FM Shahid highlighted the help and constant support provided by the “able” leadership and government of Saudi Arabia and expressed gratitude for the closeness accorded to the Maldives by the Saudi Arabian government.
The meeting was also joined by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Khaleel, Minister Counsellor of the Embassy of Maldives in Saudi Arabia Badoora Saeed and Desk Officer of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ali Zahir.
