Discussions have been held on strengthening cooperation between Maldives and Bangladesh, particularly in the health and education sectors.

The discussions were held during a meeting held at Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, where the new High Commissioner of Bangladesh Rear Admiral S M Abul Kalam Azad, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Khaleel.

The meeting saw the State Minister and Bangladeshi HC engaging in discussions regarding ways to enhance the existing friendly relations particularly in the health and education front.

Congratulating the new HC on presenting his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, State Minister Khaleel expressed confidence that the ties between Maldives and Bangladesh will continue to grow during HC Azad’s tenure.

Highlighting that Maldives values its relations with Bangladesh as a close and historical partner, the Maldivian State Minister extended gratitude for the multiple contributions made by Bangladesh to the socio-economic development of Maldives.

The meeting also saw High Commissioner Azad expressing determination to work in close collaboration with the Maldivian government to further enhance the existing bilateral relations in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting was joined by Joint Secretary Fathimath Ghina and Senior Desk Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aishath Leen Fazeeh.
