The Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development Project has been officially inaugurated.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih inaugurated the project on Tuesday, during a ceremony held at the studio of Public Service Media in the Television Maldives Building.
Supported by a free grant from the government of Japan, the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network Development Project will ensure television Broadcast coverage for 90 percent of the population , and will be completed by 2024 .
Work to establish the network was launched in February this year.
It will also provide eight high-definition channels, for free.
A platform capable of offering several services, the Digital Terrestrial Television Broadcasting Network’s most prominent feature is its ability to keep the people informed in case of a natural disaster.
Tuesday’s ceremony to launch the project was also attended by Takeuchi Midori, the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives.
