President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the biggest ever road development project to be conducted in Addu City.

This project was launched on Sunday, and includes a storm water drainage system.

The project is worth MVR 1.2 billion and would be overseen by Afcons Infrastructure Limited.

The new roads have been designed to resolve the issue of flooding, with storm water drainage systems being installed in Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo-Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo. The project would see the installation of 103 kilometers of storm water drainage systems.

A total of 107 kilometers of roads are set to be constructed across Addu City which includes Hithadhoo, Maradhoo, Maradhoo Feydhoo, Hulhudhoo, and Meedhoo. Forty kilometers of road would be built with tar and bricks and 67 kilometers of road would be built by using a cement stabilized base layer.

India's Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar and the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid accompanied the President at the ceremony held to launch the Addu City road development project.
