Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture, Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan is in the United States of America, to attend the Seafood Expo.
The fisheries minister arrived in Boston on Tuesday and will be attending the Seafood Expo being held from Sunday to Tuesday in the U.S.
He is accompanied on the visit by Director General of Fisheries Department Adam Ziyad.
Several companies that produce and export fish products in the Maldives including Ensis Fisheries, Big Fish Maldives and MIFCO - Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd attended the expo.
The Seafood Expo provides an opportunity to promote and market Maldivian fisheries products to international markets.
Further, it also facilitates the acquisition of more markets for Maldivian fish exporters by paving opportunities in foreign markets for fish products exported from the island nation.
The government will be presented ways to boost efforts to provide better price for fishermen, through participation in the expo.
The fisheries minister and Director General Ziyad is also scheduled to met with scientists from the University of Centre Barbara, California, and hold important discussions on the development of protected areas and sustainable fisheries during the visit.
