The seventh amendment legislation to the Judges Act of Maldives has been ratified.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih made the ratification on Thursday, upon which it has been publicized in the government gazette.

The legislation was passed by the People’s Majlis during its 14th sitting of the first session of the ongoing year, on March 7.

The amended legislation adds to the legislation Section 64-1, subsequent to Section 64. It stipulates the provision of maternity and paternity leave with pay for judges and justices.

Further, it details that judges will be provides six months maternity leave and one month paternity leave.

The amendment stipulates that judges will be eligible for additional leave in accordance with the Maldives Employment Act (2/2008).
