The Presidential Inquiry Commission on Child Rights Violations has been dissolved.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih dissolved the inquiry commission in accordance with the Presidential Decree No. 2/2022 issued on Tuesday, following the conclusion of its mandated duties and responsibilities.
The commission was established on 20 February 2020 in a bid to safeguard and ensure the protection of children’s rights and to expedite systematic efforts of rectification.
It was tasked with looking into actions and assessing the situation of all cases handled by state institutions that are mandated to ensure child rights are protected. This included cases of violence, neglect, abuse and cruelty against children.
It was also tasked to identify and analyze the root causes of violations against children, age groups of perpetrators, socio-economic factors, crime rates and most importantly, accountability of state institutions in undertaking their responsibility.
