President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has departed on a six-island tour of Lhaviyani atoll.
He departed on the three-day tour on Friday afternoon.
The islands the president will be covering throughout the tour are Madivaru, Naifaru, Olhuvelifushi, Kurendhoo as well as the President’s home island Hinnavaru and , also Felivaru, where he will be visiting the fish canning factory.
During the visits the President will be conducting meetings with the community leaders of the islands, including members of the atoll council, local councils, Women’s Development Committees as well as management and staff of public institutions in the islands.
He will also sit down with island residents to discuss their concerns.
The President is also scheduled to observe the progress of development projects underway in the islands, alongside officially inaugurating the newly developed airport in Madivaru.
A delegation of high-level government officials accompanies the President on the trip.
President Solih, who conducted a tour of Lhaviyani atoll on a previous occasion as well, will conclude the tour and return to the capital on February 20.
The aim of President Solih's frequent trips into the atolls is to observe closely the living conditions and well being of the people , and strengthen communication and interaction with the island communities.
