President Solih requested support in instilling true values of Islam among Maldivians to strengthen their Aqidah

Discussions have been held on efforts to tackle misconceptions about the true values of Islam.

This was done during a meeting between Secretary-General of the Muslim World League (MWL) Sheikh Dr Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa and President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Monday.

The meeting saw the pair engaging in extensive discussions revolving around areas of mutual concern including the propagation of Islam and tackling misconceptions about the true values of Islam.

They also shed light on the long-standing fraternal ties that have flourished between Maldives and MWL over the years.

Highlighting that the reliability of the MWL and its efforts have boosted in the international sphere under the able leadership of Sheikh Dr Mohammed Al-Issa, the president highlighted the significant role MWL plays in the promotion of Islam throughout the world.

With this being said, the president sought from MWL to assist in streamlining religious education in the Maldives to tackle religious extremism at the grassroots and support to instill the true values of Islam among the Maldivian people, in a bid to strengthen their faith.

The MWL Secretary-General expressed that it was his honor to accept the invitation from the Maldivian president to conduct an official visit to Maldives and spoke to length on the Charter of Makkah.

He stated that MWL is delighted to explain the charter to the Maldivian community and explained that it is a document endorsed unanimously by an unprecedented group of the world's leading Muslim scholars that fosters principles of diversity, tolerance, and mutual co-existence.

The meeting concluded with the Maldivian president and MWL Secretary-General expressing renewed hope to further enhance the existing brotherly ties and assuring their commitment to work in joint collaboration to promote the true values of Islam.

The Secretary-General of MWL arrived in the Maldives on an official visit on Sunday upon the invitation of the Maldivian president.

He was received at the Velana International Airport by Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel and senior officials at the foreign ministry.

The agenda of his trip includes meetings with the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Zahir as well as the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Minister of Defense and National Security, Mariya Ahmed Didi.

Also known as the Rabitat al-Alam al-Islami, the MWL is an international Non-Governmental Organization which strives to clarify the true and moderate principles of Islam to the world since inception in 1962.

MWL is based in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.
