Maldives has confirmed the fifth Covid-19 fatality of February.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased was an 80-year-old Maldivian woman.
She was being treated at the Hulhumalé Medical Facility before being pronounced dead by doctors at around 03:35pm on Saturday.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 281.
The latest victim has been reported two days after the last victim was reported; a 72-year-old woman at the same facility.
19 Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far this year; 14 in January and five in February.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. June saw 50 Covid-19 fatalities, followed by 10 in July. Five Covid-19 fatalities were confirmed in August and in September. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November. December also saw 12 Covid-19 fatalities.
212 Covid-19 victims were reported last year.
