Good governance can only be ensured with the support from parliamentarians, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
He made this remark during his presidential address, delivered during the inaugural sitting of the People’s Majlis on Thursday morning.
Expressing his heartfelt gratitude to all the members of the People’s Majlis as well as the Speaker of Parliament and Former President Mohamed Nasheed for all of their efforts during the challenging and unprecedented times.
He expressed that he is pleased with the manner in which the 19th parliament exercises its responsibilities and roles.
During his fourth presidential address, the president shed light on multiple things that have been done and will be done for the betterment of his people, adding that good governance lies at the core of the achievements of the government so far and the achievements of the future as well.
Noting that he refers to good governance as providing the protection of the government fairly and equally to all citizens, the president stated that there will be a lot of people having opposing ideologies with every government.
With this being said, he noted that good governance will not be maintained in a country unless the differences of opinion and ideologies, are respected, adding that good governance is only possible with the support of parliamentarians.
He stated that he has worked to participate all divisions within the Maldivian society to close the gap between where Maldives is now and where it is destined to head towards.
The president went on to state that the people of Maldives entrusted him with the responsibility to carry on in the direction, and assured the people that he will continue in this regard.
