Club Valencia has emerged the champions of this season’s President’s Cup.
During the final game of the tournament held at the Raa Alifushi island’s turf grounds on Sunday, Valencia went head-to-head with Maziya Sports and Recreation Club.
Valencia took the championship title after beating Maziya with a score of 2 – 1.
The winning team took the lead into the beginning of the match, with a score by foreign Defender Duckson Pulas at the third minute.
With this score, Maziya stepped up its game and was able to score its only goal at the 40th minute. The score was made by Captain Mohamed Irufan.
Into the second half of the game, Maziya’s Forward Cornelius Stewart and Ibrahim Waheed Hassan had excellent opportunities to score, to no avail.
In this half, Maziya’s goalie Kiran Kumar Limbu defended a free kick by Valencia’s Captain, Ali Fasir.
Since the game ended in a tie, extra time was added during which Valencia scored its winning goal in the last minute of the first half in the added time. The score was made by foreign Forward Martin.
This was the club’s second victory in the President’s Cup since 2008. Valencia took home the trophy during 1993, 1994, 1998 and 1999 as well.
Valencia took the championship title without losing a single match in this season’s President’s Cup.
The only game Valencia lost in the ongoing football season was a game played against Maziya in the Charity Shield tournament. Maziya beat Valencia 5 – 0 in the game.
The President’s Cup tournament’s final game was also attended by Vice President Faisal Naseem, who presented the winners with the championship trophy and medals.
