President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has discussed decentralized development with the Noonu Atoll Council.

As part of his ongoing two-day tour of five islands in Noonu atoll, the president sat down with the council members and discussed the merits of the administration’s decentralized development policy extensively.

Emphasizing on the role of local councils in working together with government offices and institutions to realize the targets of the administration’s Strategic Action Plan (SAP), the council members shared the development plans for the atoll and the challenges they face in discharging their duties, with the president.

Issues raised by the councilors included housing issues, the jurisdiction of local councils, waste management, ferry services as well as healthcare.

Further, they also spoke extensively about the new opportunities presented by the administration-led amendments to the Decentralization Act.

Listening to these issues, the president assured the councilors that the administration would work with relevant ministries to find amicable solutions to their concerns, going on to urge them on ensuring their developmental plans are in line with those at the national level.
