President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has received gratitude for his administration’s efforts to empower local councils.
As part of his two-day tour of Noonu atoll, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih touched down in Maafaru island as his first destination of five islands, on Tuesday morning.
He met with members of the island council as well as the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), where discussions were held regarding the most pertinent issues and development needs of the island community.
As such, talks were held on housing needs, improving healthcare services, the need for a youth center and issues related to the council’s jurisdiction, with the councilors going on to request the president to make haste in making the ice plant established in the island, operational.
Discussions were also held on changes to the design of the island harbor.
Listening to their concerns, the president assured them that the government will take the necessary steps to address their concerns and went on to brief them on the latest updates on the development projects underway.
Councilors and WDC members were also briefed on the administration’s policy on decentralized development of the health sector.
The president is accompanied by Cabinet Ministers and high-level government officials during the short tour of Noonu atoll.
