Maldives has confirmed the 11th Covid-19 victim of December.
According to the Health Protection Agency (HPA), the deceased has been identified as a 66-year-old Maldivian man.
He was receiving treatment at the Gaaf Dhaal Covid Management Facility, before being pronounced dead by doctors at 10:50pm on Wednesday.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 261 and comes just a few days after the last victim was reported. The last victim was honoree of the highest-ranking Maldivian honor, the Order of Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin, Umar Zahir. He died aged 85.
211 Covid-19 victims have been reported so far this year, with 11 reported in December.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November.
