The incumbent administration’s Gender Equality Action Plan aims to promote the economic empowerment of women, says President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
Taking the podium at the Professional and Career Women Awards 2021 ceremony on Wednesday, the president noted that as part of the government’s "National Resilience and Recovery Plan (NRR) 2020–2022", the Gender Equality Action Plan carries the purpose of boosting women’s ability to participate equally in engagements of state and national-level.
Stressing that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic obstructed the government from implementing its Strategic Action Plan (SAP) which was reprioritized into the two-year NRR inclusive of the top priority deliverables.
Gender Equality Action Plan being delivered will in turn ensure equality between men and women in leadership, economic activities, justice, and social well-being, the president added.
Going on to highlight that eradicating disparities and ensuring equal opportunities for women on the political and social fronts are significant pledges of his administration, the president shed light on the significant progress the administration has made in this endeavor over the past years.
He also stressed on the importance of welcoming the voices, opinions and perspectives of women in decision-making.
Recipients of the Professional and Career Women Awards 2021 awards were conferred awards by President Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed.
