Maldives has confirmed the eighth Covid-19 fatality of December 2021.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 80-year-old Maldivian woman who was receiving treatment at Baa Atoll Covid Management Facility.
Doctors at the facility pronounced her dead at 6:35am on Sunday.
This has pushed the Maldives Covid-19 death toll to 258, of which 208 have been reported during 2021.
The 258th Covid-19 fatality has been reported a day after the last death was confirmed with the passing of an 83-year-old Maldivian man receiving treatment at Addu Covid Management Facility.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November.
Eight Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far in December.
