Maldives has confirmed the sixth Covid-19 fatality of December.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) identified the deceased as an 82-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
He was pronounced dead by doctors at 2:23pm, Friday.
Maldives Covid-19 death toll has risen to 256, of which 206 have been reported during 2021.
The latest victim has been reported a few days after the last fatality was reported, when a 79-year-old Maldivian man who was receiving treatment at the Addu Covid Management Facility was pronounced dead at 9:30pm, December 6.
The island nation reported the highest number of deaths in a single month since the pandemic began, during May 2021, when a total of 88 deaths were confirmed. 50 deaths were confirmed in June while 10 deaths were reported in July. In August, five Covid-19 patients succumbed to the virus, September also saw five Covid-19 fatalities. 12 Covid-19 fatalities were reported in October followed by seven in November.
Six Covid-19 fatalities have been reported so far in December.
