President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has signed the book of condolences opened in the memory of late Copy Mohamed Rasheed.

The president signed the book at the Dhivehi Bahuge Academy on Tuesday morning.

In his message, the president wrote that Rasheed’s demise was a major loss to the linguistics of Dhivehi and added that Rasheed was a very skilled writer, who left his legacy in Dhivehi language.

President Solih extended condolences following the passing of ‘Copy’ Rasheed last week.

‘Copy’ Rasheed died at 72 years of age while receiving treatment for a stroke at ADK Hospital, on November 11.

Rasheed is celebrated for his long service in the field of Dhivehi language and literature and is survived by children, Maldivian actor ‘Copy’ Ismail Rasheed and famous singer Yameen Rasheed.

Rasheed was the recipient of the National Award of Honor conferred by the government, back in 2020 and was a loved teacher during his years teaching in multiple schools. He was also conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award by Maldives Media Council in the Journalism Awards in 2018.

He received multiple awards for his national services, throughout his life. As such, he won an award during 1984, followed by National Award of Recognition in writing poetry in 2005. He also won the National Award of Recognition for his skilled writing in Dhivehi and Arabic, during 1988.

Copy Rasheed was known for his skills in poetry as well as writing Dhivehi and Arabic, he specialized in writing in large fonts and conducted several training courses on this.

Having served as a civil servant for over 32 years, Copy Rasheed also served as the Atoll Head of Baa atoll, Assistant to the Director and Assistant Director at the Dhivehi Language and Heritage Academy, Deputy Director at Publishing Department of Education Ministry, Director at Education Ministry, as well as Assistant Director General and Deputy Director at Judicial Service Commission
