Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has refuted claims of negligence in connection to the death of a newborn.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, a media official at the hospital revealed that the incident was in no way caused due to the negligence of the hospital and that the newborn succumbed to complications caused by shoulder dystocia during labor.

As such, the hospital revealed that the baby was resuscitated after birth, however, the efforts of doctors and nurses to save the life of the newborn was in vain.

Shoulder dystocia presents risks to both the mother and the child, although it is rare.

The hospital went on to reveal that their practice in serving the patient was under their guidelines and they had completed all of the procedures required in making a delivery. They are to have immediately phoned the on-call doctor on duty at the time as well.

AEH revealed they join the bereaved family in mourning the death of a newborn child.

The family of the deceased newborn had accused the hospital of negligence, claiming that there were injuries on the newborn’s body.

The baby was born to a native of Vaadhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll.
