President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and Maldives Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has revealed that efforts are underway to find a solution for the issues facing Maldivians in acquiring medical visas to India.
In a Tweet posted on Saturday, the PGA noted that he is aware of the difficulties Maldivians are facing in getting medical visas to neighboring India.
He highlighted that these issues are still continuing to arise despite special arrangements having been made by the Indian government for Maldivian nationals to facilitate easier process, especially since borders have been closed in the neighboring country.
PGA Shahid went on to give his assurance and confidence that a solution will be provided shortly, as he is in discussions with the government of India to find solutions for the matter.
Shedding light on the special arrangements made for Maldivian nationals to facilitate easier visa process, PGA Shahid told RaajjeMV that discussions are currently underway to make arrangements for Maldivians to travel to India for medical purposes, without the need to acquire a visa.
India closed borders during March 2020 and has revealed that borders will be reopened next week. Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik revealed that international flights will be permitted to carry foreign tourists into the country from October 15.
