Over the past week, 13 more tourist accommodation establishments opened doors to tourists, nationwide.
The latest weekly statistics publicized by the Ministry of Tourism reveal that a total of 882 facilities are currently operational nationwide, of which 156 are resorts, 572 are guesthouses, 10 are hotels and 144 are liveaboard vessels.
51,038 operational beds span across the over 880 facilities, of which 36,912 are in resorts, 11,280 are in hotels and guesthouses and 2,846 are in safari vessels.
Over the past week 12 more guesthouses and one more resort resumed services to tourists across the Maldives.
The 12 guesthouses that resumed services nationwide over the past week include,
- One in Baa atoll
- Three in Kaafu atoll
- Three in Alif Alif atoll
- One in Alif Dhaal atoll
- One in Vaavu atoll
- One in Meemu atoll
- One in Faafu atoll
- One in Seenu atoll
Maldives has a capacity of 1,089 tourist facilities which include 160 safari vessels, 765 hotels and guesthouses and 164 resorts. This means that of the total facility-capacity, 16 safari vessels, eight resorts, 183 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.
Guesthouses currently in operation are:
- 11 guesthouses in Haa Alif atoll,
- Five guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
- Three guesthouses in Shaviyani atoll,
- Six guesthouses in Noonu atoll,
- Two guesthouses in Raa atoll,
- Four guesthouses in Lhaviyani atoll,
- 37 guesthouses in Baa atoll,
- 223 guesthouses in Kaafu atoll,
- 117 guesthouses in Alif Alif atoll,
- 63 guesthouses in Alif Dhaal atoll,
- 44 guesthouses in Vaavu atoll,
- Three guesthouses in Meemu atoll,
- Eight guesthouses in Faafu atoll,
- Four guesthouses in Thaa atoll,
- Four guesthouses in Gaaf Alif atoll,
- Two guesthouses in Dhaalu atoll,
- Three guesthouses in Laamu atoll,
- Six guesthouses in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
- 17 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
- 10 guesthouses in Seenu atoll.
Tourists who have not completed the Covid-19 vaccination will be barred from checking into guesthouses established in residential islands, according to a recent publication by the Maldives Health Protection Agency (HPA). As such, only those who have passed the limit of 14 days after completing both doses of the vaccine can check in to local guesthouses.
Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
