On the sidelines of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met with the Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in New York City.

With this being said, the Kuwaiti PM shed light on the urgency of battling climate change for the survival of the Maldives and other small island states.

The Kuwaiti PM expressed confidence that climate change will rank high on the General Assembly agenda during the tenure of Abdulla Shahid, President of the 76th UNGA.

Highlighting the important role of Kuwait as a development partner to the Maldives over the years, President Solih expressed gratitude for the support provided, especially through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), which has initiated several projects for the infrastructural development and social sectors of the Maldives.

Reaffirming the common interest to enhance tourism cooperation as well as people-to-people contact and business-to-business interaction between the two countries in the coming years, the two leaders assured that ties will be furthered in the years to come.

Further, the Maldivian president assured the Kuwaiti PM that his administration will make the process of welcoming Kuwaiti visitors back to Maldives after the Covid-19 pandemic, as smooth and efficient as possible.
