Operational tourist facilities in Maldives
850 tourist facilities operational nationwide so far

Maldives has a capacity of 1,083 tourist facilities

A total of 850 tourist accommodation establishments have begun operations across the Maldives so far.

According to the Tourism Ministry’s latest figures, these facilities include 552 hotels and guesthouses operating 10,778 beds, 155 resorts operating 36,832 beds and 143 liveaboard vessels operating 2,828. Operational beds total 50,438.

Maldives has a capacity of 1,083 tourist facilities which include 161 safari vessels, 758 hotels and guesthouses and 163 resorts. This means that of the total facility-capacity, 18 safari vessels, eight resorts, 206 guesthouses and hotels are yet to resume operations.

Guesthouses currently in operation are:

  • 11 guesthouses in Haa Alif atoll,
  • Five guesthouses in Haa Dhaal atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Shaviyani atoll,
  • Six guesthouses in Noonu atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in Raa atoll,
  • Four guesthouses in Lhaviyani atoll,
  • 36 guesthouses in Baa atoll,
  • 216 guesthouses in Kaafu atoll,
  • 111 guesthouses in Alif Alif atoll,
  • 62 guesthouses in Alif Dhaal atoll,
  • 43 guesthouses in Vaavu atoll,
  • Two guesthouses in Meemu atoll,
  • Five guesthouses in Faafu atoll,
  • Four guesthouses in Thaa atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Gaaf Alif atoll,
  • One guesthouse in Dhaalu atoll,
  • Three guesthouses in Laamu atoll,
  • Six guesthouses in Gaaf Dhaal atoll,
  • 17 guesthouses in Fuvahmulah City,
  • Nine guesthouses in Seenu atoll.

Tourists who have not completed the Covid-19 vaccination will be barred from checking into guesthouses established in residential islands, as per recent amendments to guidelines. As such, only those who have passed the limit of 14 days after completing both doses of the vaccine can check in to local guesthouses.

Maldives reopened borders on 15 July 2020, nearly four months since borders were closed and at first, resorts and liveaboard vessels were given the green light to begin operations. Guesthouses outside of the Greater Malé Region were permitted to resume operations on 15 October 2020. Authorities allowed the reopening of guesthouses in the capital region on 14 December 2020.
