Due to pending works of parliamentary committees, Wednesday’s People's Majlis sitting has been cancelled in order to allow committees to finish their tasks.
As per parliament regulations, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are allocated for parliament sittings. However, at the end of Tuesday’s sitting, Vilufushi constituency MP Hassan Afeef, who presided over the day’s session, announced that Wednesday’s sitting would be cancelled in order to give committees time to finish their pending tasks.
Member Afeef is presiding over the current sessions as Speaker and Former President Mohamed Nasheed remains on extended leave, and Deputy Speaker Eva Abdulla is abroad.
Tuesday’s meeting had concluded considerably early as a number of members had to leave due to committee obligations. Wednesday’s meeting was cancelled in light of this.
The Attorney General’s Office had stated that 32 bills are to be sent to parliament during the last session of the year, some of which have already been sent for debate.
Some of the most significant bills of the current term include, the Evidence Bill, Maldives Media and Broadcasting Authority bill, among others.
