RaajjeMV has learnt that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has not been able to get a response from Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed since leaving to Germany for further treatment to injuries sustained in an assassination attempt, despite multiple efforts.

While some lawmakers, citing the speaker, have said that the incumbent president has not attempted to check on Nasheed since he left for further treatment, a credible source refuted this and claimed it was the other way around.

As such, this individual who works closely with both the current and former presidents, told RaajjeMV that Solih had made an attempt to check on Nasheed as soon as he departed to Germany on May 13. He is to have made various efforts to reach the former president, including sending a text message.

However, according to the source, Nasheed is yet to respond to the president, despite having announced that he started using his mobile phone via Twitter on July 6.

While a probe done by the parliament's committee on national security services shows institutional failure in leading to the attack in Maldives' congested capital city, Nasheed has expressed confidence that he does not believe reports of government involvement "in the slightest".

However, the former president back in Julythreatened to withdraw supportfor the current administration due to differences of opinion. While Nasheed is the leader of main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), this has led to a rift within the party.

Nasheed was targeted in an assassination attempt on May 6. The attack, which saw a remote-controlled IED explode near his residence in the center of Malé City, caused serious injuries to the ex-president who was rushed to the hospital after being knocked to the ground by the blast. While he left to Germany on May 13, he is now in the United Kingdom after being referred to specialists there.

Following the attack, President Solih appointed the South Asia region human rights expert Abbas Faiz as the government's special envoy to monitor the investigation, prosecution and trial of the May 6 terrorist attack. Solih has also assured that he will be monitoring the case closely.

Former President Nasheed has announced plans to return to Male' in September, however, an official announcement is yet to be made.
