Maldives reported 113 new cases on Sunday, pushing the island nation’s case total to 78,356.
According to the latest daily figures publicized by Health Protection Agency, (HPA), the 113 new infections confirmed from 5,664 samples tested during the reporting period.
Of the 113 new infections, 19 were reported from the Greater Male Area, 71 from residential island and 23 from operational resorts.
Atolls have been reporting the highest number of cases since June.
95 additional recoveries were reported on Sunday, which pushes the island nations recovery figure to 75,545. Maldives has seen 222 coronavirus fatalities, since April 2020.
22 individuals are currently hospitalized and being treated for Covid-19.
Following the spike in coronavirus cases in May, which was declared the fourth wave of Covid-19, authorities strengthened safety measures and restrictions across the nation. However, in early July many of these measures were relaxed in time for the long government holiday.
While more eases were announced last week allowing offices and businesses to resume normal services under certain guidelines, the public is urged to continue to all Covid-19 safety measures to avoid another surge. Schools are to reopen this week as well.
The state of public health emergency announced on 12 March 2020 was extended for a 17th time on August 2, to expire on September 1.
