Maldives Third-way Democrats (MTD) called out the nation’s youth to get vaccinated to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Calling on the community to complete both doses, MTD in statement stressed that getting vaccinated is a civic responsibility.

While the Health Protection Agency (HPA) records show that most people who have not completed their vaccination are between ages 18 to 26, MTD further called on the youth to put aside any political differences and complete this national responsibility by getting vaccinated against Covid-19.

It further called on the youth to take President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih's advice and to "go and get vaccine shots now", and gets vaccinated as soon as possible for the sake of the Maldivian community. The president had stressed that vaccines are the 'pathway to resume the rhythm of normal life after months of hardship from Covid-19'.

The president launched the nationwide vaccination programme on February 1; he recently announced the aim to vaccinate 90 percent of the eligible population by the end of August. While the goal was to do this for free, the president has also announced that the country has acquired enough doses to do so.

Highlighting that the campaign includes free vaccination for foreigners residing in Maldives as well, MTD thanked the president for his commitment to keeping the citizens safe.

The party then stated that 61 percent of the population has received their second dose while 70 percent has received their first doses.

Furthermore, MTD thanked doctors, nurses, HPA, Maldives Red Crescent, World Health Organization (WHO) and all front-line workers who work against Covid-19.
