Projects will not proceed if residents have any objections: Addu City Mayor
The council will manage the harbor project
It is important that the opinions of locals are considered when making decisions
New designs of the harbor has been presented by the Addu City council

Addu City Mayor, Ali Nizar declared that no projects will be moving forward in the city if the citizens have complaints.

While talking about the development projects taking place in Addu on RaajjeTV’s Falasurukhee programme, Mayor Nizar stated that the City’s Hithadhoo District’s Harbor Project has been handed over to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The mayor then went on to explain that the drawings for the project had been shared with the city council and that the locals were not happy about it. He further elaborated that they would start this project as soon as they are provided with a big enough budget to construct the harbor the way they planned to.

The council definitely disapproves of the designs of the harbor presented to them. We have shared the designs of our plans with the ministry and relevant authorities. We highly encourage that the harbor is constructed according to the designs we presented. From now on, no project will be moving forward if the locals disapprove, even if it is in relation to the construction of a road, a harbor or any other place. The council is made to voice the opinions of citizens. Therefore, after considering the input of citizens, the harbor designs currently presented to the council is something we cannot approve"
Ali Nizar, Addu City Mayor

Mayor Nizar declared that he would consider the opinions of the locals as he said he would in his campaign in any projects put forward by both the government and the council. He concluded by stating that the council has a lot of plans they wish to move forward with and that specific people will be appointed by the council to manage the harbor project.
