Covid-19: Maldives reports 144 new cases, 191 recoveries
The country remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020

Maldives reported 144 new coronavirus infections on Wednesday, bringing country's total case count to 76,332.

According to the latest daily figures updated by Health Protection Agency (HPA), 6,138 samples were tested within the reporting period.

72 of the Wednesday's reported cases were from residential islands. 36 cases were confirmed from the Greater Male' Region, as well as operational resorts.

Further, with the 191 additional recoveries reported on Wednesday, a total of 73,531 patients have recovered from Covid-19. There have been 218 deaths, with the most recent one reported on Tuesday.

With these developments, the country's active case count dropped to 2,571 from the previous day's 2,619.

And with the four patients hospitalized for further treatment on Wednesday, twelve patients are currently receiving care at facilities.

While Covid-19 safety measures were strengthened following a fourth wave back in May, some of the restrictions were eased following a decrease in cases. This was announced in time for Eid-al-Adha and Independence Day holidays.

Maldives remains in a state of public health emergency since 12 March 2020 which was last extended to expire on 2 August.
