According to the latest vaccination update publicized by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), 4,291 residents of Malé City received vaccine shots, whereas the number of persons administered vaccinations across outlying atolls was at 3,222.

Of Sunday’s vaccine doses, 250 residents of the capital and 66 in atolls received first doses totaling 206. The 7,207 second vaccine doses included 4,051 Malé residents and 3,156 atoll residents.

With this development the total number of fully vaccinated individuals across Maldives has been pushed to 235,615.

The number of persons who have received first doses nationwide sits at 318,756 by the end of Sunday.

There are currently two mobile teams active across six vaccination centers in the capital region and 193 vaccination centers spanning outlying atolls.

The incumbent administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” inoculation drive on February 1.

Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace, with the public health authorities working to dispatch Covishield doses to island where vaccine stocks have run out.

Covishield second doses are currently open for those who received first doses in February and March.

Announcing eases to Covid-19 restrictions nationwide on Wednesday, the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) revealed that 35.15 percent of the Maldives population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 thus far, whereas the percentage of persons to have received first doses is currently at 55.87 percent.

Maldives is also expected to receive an adequate supply of AstraZeneca vaccine doses between July 12 – 20.
