Amid an operation carried out by the Maldives Police Service (MPS) against drug related crimes, three individuals have been arrested.
Police revealed that the operation took place in Addu city’s Hulhumeedhoo, Ga. Dhaandhoo as well as Ga. Viligili and Gd. Thinadhoo.
Furthermore, the operation that took place in Hulhumeedhoo was carried out on July 7. In an integration of Hulhumeedhoo police and intelligence, the maneuver resulted in the discovery of 100 rubber packets containing the substance strongly suspected to be drugs, in an intensive search of the forest areas. However, no arrests were confirmed to have been made in connection to the drug bust.
As for the operation executed in Dhaandhoo, the police received intelligence tipping off drug trade, leading to another partnership of intelligence and local police. On July 7, with regard to said operation, a 34-year-old man was stopped and checked at the island’s harbor upon which he was found to be carrying 6 packets of the suspected substance. The Dhaandhoo Magistrate Court has since remanded the suspect by 10 days, at a location decided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
In addition to that, a 29-year-old man arrested on theft charges on July 6, in Ga. Villingili, was revealed to be carrying a packet of the same substance. He has been remanded by 10 days.
On July 4, Thinadhoo police officers noticed the suspicious behaviors of a 34-year-old man, during patrolling. Upon being stopped and checked, he was exposed to be carrying the same suspicious material in a rubber packet. He has also been remanded by 10 days.
