35.15 percent of the Maldives population has been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 thus far.
This was revealed by the spokesperson of the Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC), Dr. Nazla Rafeeq during a press briefing to update the public regarding the Covid-19 situation in the island nation, on Wednesday afternoon.
Dr. Nazla revealed that so far, 35.15 percent of those eligible in the Maldives has been fully vaccinated, whereas the percentage of persons to have received first doses is currently at 55.87 percent.
Breaking down the statistics, Dr. Nazla revealed that 61.03 percent of those eligible in the Malé region has received first doses, with 76.9 percent of atoll communities receiving first doses.
Further, the HEOC spokesperson revealed that 37.8 percent of Malé residents and 47.5 percent of atoll residents have received their second jabs.
Authorities resumed administering the Oxford AstraZeneca Covishield vaccination on July 4 after months, on an appointment-basis. Currently, Covishield doses are being administered in six centers across Malé; Social Center, Islamic Center, the National Art Gallery, Dhamanaveshi, Hulhumalé Center and Villimalé Center. Sinopharm doses are being administered at Senahiya and Tree Top Hospital.
Vaccinations across outlying atolls are also proceeding at a swift pace, with the public health authorities working to dispatch Covishield doses to island where vaccine stocks have run out.
Covishield second doses are currently open for those who received first doses in February and March.
Speaking at the press, Spokesperson at the President’s Office Mabrook Azeez announced eases for those who have observed 14 days since receiving second vaccine jabs as well. As such, he noted that such individuals will be allowed to travel from islands where monitoring measures are not effective, with a negative PCR certification.
Residents of the capital city may travel to islands where the positivity rate is below five percent, without the need to quarantine if they hold a negative PCR certification.
Further, those traveling to islands where the positivity rate is between five and 10 percent, must observe a seven-day quarantine and provide release samples. 14 days of quarantine and release samples are required for travelers to islands where the positivity rate is above 10 percent.
