Speaker and former President Mohamed Nasheed has met with the President of the German parliament, Wolfgang Schäuble.

Nasheed who is currently in Germany for medical purposes after being targeted in a terror attack back in May, met with President of the German Bundestag on Thursday.

The People’s Majlis said that Speaker Nasheed, during the meeting, expressed his gratitude for the continued goodwill and support of the German government extended to the Maldives.

He also acknowledged the technical assistance provided to the Majlis Secretariat as well as Maldivian lawmakers, by the Max Planck Foundation for International Peace and the Rule of Law.

Former President Nasheed traveled to Germany on May 13, seven days after the attempt on his life. He was the target of a remote controlled bomb in capital Male’ City on May 6. He had just left his house and was about to get into his car when a bomb attached to a motorbike exploded.

While he underwent extensive surgeries that lasted 16 hours following the explosion, Nasheed made the decision to travel abroad only after approval from his doctor’s team at ADK Hospital.

According to the latest reports, all of the former president’s wounds except for one have healed.
