Signing of the agreements with the recipients of the 'Hiyaa' flats will commence in July.
Government Mohamed Mabrik Azeez revealed this at a press conference held by the President’s office on Tuesday, adding that the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) aims to conclude the work within a month.
Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam reiterated this at a press conference held on Wednesday, together with Male’ City Council.
He said that there will be additional work required even after the signing include this such as providing electricity and handing over of keys.
While the recipients of the flats have been publicized, they will have to do the “finishing works”. Hence the government decided to grant a period of three months with no rent charged to prepare the space for occupancy.
Aslam assured that they will start counting down the three month period after the recipients complete all required work and move in, and not from the day the agreement is signed.
The monthly rent of the housing units to MVR 8,500 and while Male' City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has requested to lower it to MVR 6,000, spokesperson Mabrook said that discussions are ongoing regarding the request.
