Maldives has reported the first maternal death linked to Covid-19.
The Health Protection Agency (HPA) revealed that deceased is a 25-year-old Maldivian. Doctors on the 11th floor of Dharumavantha Hospital pronounced her dead at 12:43pm on Saturday.
HPA revealed that the woman was receiving treatment for Covid-19 on ventilator support for 15 days. Her newborn is currently being treated in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and reportedly doing well.
The 25-year-old was transferred to the capital for treatment following health deterioration on May 27.
On Saturday morning the public health authority confirmed the 193rd Covid-19 fatality, when an 84-year-old Maldivian woman passed away while receiving treatment at Hulhumalé Medical Facility.
